These are things/ people I find ridiculous (which means it’s also hilarious, unnecessary, or both). This list will probably grow quite a bit.

  1. Oklahoma lawmakers.

  3. Middle aged women who like Twilight.
  4. Twilight in general.

  6. The $50 bill.
  7. The Tulsa Zoo.
  8. Big Splash water park in Tulsa.
  9. The “Saw” movies.
  10. Plane ticket prices.
  11. Militant religious people.

Sapulpa Hospital – St. John’s Hospital

May 16, 2010

My great grandma recently had a fall in the Wal-Mart Parking lot, and fell right on her face. She was pretty banged up, and the ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital. I was just getting off of work at the Aquarium and got the call, so went to the hospital in Sapulpa. She was fine, coherent, and talking, but they kept her overnight for monitoring.

The next day I got off of work early and went to the hospital. Grandma was in a lot of pain, but they weren’t giving her any pain medicine. Apparently it wasn’t time yet. They told us they were going to release her, and 3 and a half hours later, she was released. Still no pain medicine. As we were checking out tears began to fall out of my grandma’s eyes. She was in so much pain. (If you know her, you know she never complains about pain or almost anything else.)

Why is it that they couldn’t give her anything for pain for the ride home before she was discharged? It’s very unthoughtful (to put it nicely).

Another Complaint I have about this hospital- When they cleaned the “wound” around her eye and put the skin glue on her, they didn’t seem to clean it very well. It’s been oozing pus for some time. I have to clean it every night. Since it’s been 2 weeks since she fell she’s healed quite nicely, and there’s only a deep spot left on her eyebrow left to heal. She wanted me to take the glue off, so I did, and there was something in there that was covered in I-don’t-know-what. HEY DOCTOR, YOU MISSED SOMETHING. Using my handy first-aid skills, I cleaned Grandma’s eyebrow up, put a bandage over it, and will change it every 6 hours or so.

Basically, I’m pissed off at the Sapulpa Hospital for the 1,057,834,057th time in my life.

10 Things

April 25, 2010

Here are ten things you may or may not know about me:

  1. I have a stutter.
  2. I brush my teeth in the shower.
  3. I hate mint chocolate chip flavored ice cream.
  4. I was so freaked out whilst reading the novel “Dracula” by Bram Stoker that I had a nightmare in which I was chased around my hometown by Dracula. Strange.
  5. I love Jane Austen’s books.
  6. I can type 55 words per minute when I really get going.
  7. I went to anger management counseling when I was 15, where I was diagnosed with depression.
  8. I was 2nd chair French horn in 2008 Oklahoma All-State Orchestra.
  9. I live with my great-grandmother. I call her grandma.
  10. I refuse to read my hometown’s newspaper, due to it being not balanced enough in political elections and in their opinion section. They way I see it, the opinion section should have people from all sides of the political spectrum, and people of all different faiths, including those who have none. But that’s for another blog :)

Peace out. Cheers. Etc. :)

Government Class

August 30, 2009

In my Government class there are 4 middle aged white men. They fit the stereotype of conservative, middle class, white men. They are also convinced that their opinions are 100% correct and they will not listen to dissenting opinions. They argue amongst one another about whose opinion is correct.

Here’s an example of an argument (this is not verbatim):

Man 1: …and then these people get off of the bus with bull horns and block out these other people who actually have questions!

Man 2: Well all we need to ask ourselves is who do we know that has done this before, who supported Mr. Obama to the tune of 4 BILLION dollars? Who would bus those people over? The trade unions. –

Man 3: (To the professor) You’re gonna have to take me out of this class. I can’t keep my mouth shut! (To the class in general) What I don’t understand is why people think the president is such a big deal. The President in nobody! We hire people every 2 and 6 years to do what WE want. If the President does something we don’t like, they can change it.

Man 1: Maybe, but I heard an interview with a congressman who said he didn’t care what his constituents said, he would vote for what he wanted and what he thought would be best.

Man 3: Then he shouldn’t be re-elected!

Rest of the class: …(silence)

That’s just a sample of what takes place. They are basically unnecessary conversations that quickly spiral away from the original topic. I don’t have a problem hearing other people’s opinions that are different from mine. In fact, I welcome it. But when you take half an hour of my class time and don’t allow anyone else to join the conversation, I’m going to get mad.

People who are so ignorant and intolerant of other people’s viewpoints rub me the wrong way. That’s one of the reasons I no longer attend church. People there are so intolerant of people with different opinions, and they use God and their Christian religion as a reason for their intolerance. I don’t want to go to Sunday School and hear that Obama is a terrible President. That’s not what Sunday School is for.

I don’t want to go to Government class and hear these men speak. I want the professor to teach what he is supposed to, and tell these men to do their political debates outside of class. I know if he doesn’t tell them, one of these days I’ll make a scene in class and tell them myself.

Weather

March 26, 2009

Oklahoma weather is so ridiculous. It’s warm and sunny one day, and cold and drizzly and rainy the next. We don’t go through the actual seasons as clear cut as some states or areas may. I’m not saying that Oklahoma is the only state with crazy weather, but you’ve got to admit, Oklahoma is near the top (if not at the top) of the “states with ridiculous weather patterns” list. Here’s a look at the Tulsa area forecast for the next week, if you don’t believe me:

Tulsa, OK forecast from KOTV

As for Chicago’s claim as the “Windy City”… Yeah right. The wind in Chicago is nothing compared to winds we get here. I have literally been knocked over by wind here in Oklahoma. When I was in Chicago all I ever felt was a light wind, usually just a nice breeze. Look at Friday on the forecast: 25mph wind! BAM!
